Shopping is a bit of a relaxing hobby for me, which is sometimes troubling for the bank balance. Rebecca Hall |

Who doesn't like to wander through a crowded, unique, fun and old time general store? Hear your heels on the wooden floor, climb the antique staircase and sit with a delicious bakery item overlooking a small town? That's what we found in Pawhuska, Oklahoma recently when we took a trip to visit the Pioneer Woman Merchantile. We are about an hour and a half north from Tulsa. A beautiful part of green country (as we call the northeast part of the state). The rolling hills and large ranches go by as you drive into town. Pawhuska wasn't always this busy. But when Ree and Ladd Drummond decided to open the store in their hometown, here came her fans. |

The "merc" is a renovated 100 year old Osage Mercantile building on Main Street. We are in the county seat of the Osage Indians. Ree and Ladd have revitalized the town and other businesses are thriving. She has such beautiful and unique items for sale that are hard to resist. I picked up a couple of items and made a mental note to come back for Christmas gifts.
I am very lucky that Monty enjoys shopping and walking through small towns to see what the shops have available. We love to scour antique, thrift shops or junk shops. The dustier, the better. We like unusual yard art and when I am "shopping" I look for a gift or it has to be functional. I have too much collecting dust and taking up space.
One thing we did splurge on was a new set of dishes. We have a nice collection of old melamine, chipped china, and worn out plates and bowls. We just couldn't resist the design and bought a service for four. We will go back and get another set to build up our collection. |

Aren't the cats adorable? This is a serving tray but there are towels and other animal themed items just as interesting.
