Out of Isolation Trip 1
Besides, I'm a gypsy at heart and I like to travel around. Reba McIntire
Life update: Monty retired this past April after 30 years with American Airlines. Due to the Covid-10 virus, flights were restricted and business down so he was offered, with many others, the opportunity to retire. I worked out his social security account and helped with getting retirement paperwork going a couple of months before and it all happened as we expected.
As most of the USA, isolation and stay at home orders (suggestions to some) began about March 25. After Monty retired we wanted to travel somewhere via automobile and nearby. We decided on Springfield, Missouri. We had hoped to stay in our favorite place, The Mansion at Elffendale but booked with weddings several weeks ahead. I had been reading about a new motel on Route 66 in Springfield and it sounded like our kind of place.
July 5th we are off to the Rockwood Motorcourt in the older part of the city right on Route 66. The original motor court has been revised and remodeled with cottages themed.
Ours is Route 66 theme, also available is White Cliffs of Dover (WW2), Casablanca, King of the Road, The Classics (cars of the 40s and 50s) and soon to come Cinema (stars of the 30s-50s).
Of course at this time of the year it is blazing hot and humid in this part of the country. We had hoped to go back to a favorite spot, the botanical garden but it was too hot. Second choice, Bass Pro. This location is the largest of the stores (called The Mother Ship) and it usually has a couple of good exhibits to wander through. One exhibit is always there - guns of all sizes, types, style, etc. This time there’s an exhibit of Archery accomplishments. Very interesting. We wanted to see their new aquarium but it cost too much. We wandered about and shopped a little, then back to our motel.
On the way back to stop at the Route 66 Classic Car Museum. All sorts of cars through the decades. Really interesting even though I am not a car person. Monty enjoyed himself and we got some good photos.
Later that evening we ate a very good Italian meal at Bruno’s in downtown Springfield. We had great service and the decor and music was very Italy.
