The Journey Begins - We Buy A Motorhome

Since we were married in 2011 we've been dreaming, talking, and wanting to buy an RV Motorhome or a 5th wheel as a way to travel the United States (maybe Canada) and go where the road takes us. At our age, making the decision to sell our home of 1300+ sq ft and downsize to a home on wheels of about 300+/- sq ft takes thought and lots of soul searching. What are we thinking? Is this the right thing for us? Can I do without 80% of my stuff? Will be adage be true "be careful what you wish for?"
The past two years Monty has had heart issues. He had a heart attack and repair in 2016 and open heart surgery in 2017. That has played a big part in our making the decision to go ahead and buy the vehicle and start moving from brick/mortar house to a house on wheels. We both love to travel and as we have gotten older, the days seem to speed by all too quickly. 
One day just before Christmas Monty came home and said he was ready to get serious about buying an RV Motorhome (decided no 5th wheel), start moving the things we really want to keep and sell or give away the rest. Prepare to go somewhere in the Spring to test all the systems so we can be ready for a longer trip later in the year. When he makes up his mind, there's no stopping him. He had been scouring newspapers, all internet sites he could find selling motorhomes for several months. 
I was on the internet one afternoon and found an RV that might suit his requirements. I commented on the post and was sent a response. It was for sale at a dealership - which we were wary about - we had been looking for an individual that had taken good care of their vehicle but we decided to see it anyway. Monty liked the idea of having a Tiffin Allegro if we could find one. The ad was for this make/model and we were excited that it was in our budget and with low mileage. It was a quick decision to purchase and the next day Monty worked out the finances.  About 3 days later we picked up the Tiffin Allegro Bus 37' with 3 slides. Proudly drove it home and realized this was our dream come true and the best Christmas present we ever had.

The traveller has reached the end of the journey!    Edmund Burke       This is a story of a man and an engine. I will begin with the first time we tried to retrieve it from the seller.  From  March 2016 - A few weeks ago Monty bought an engine with hopes of building his own airplane so we can fly when we want. The only problem was he bought it in Ohio. Okay, now we have to go pick it up. No problem, we have the Dodge one ton truck and we decide to go this past Thursday. Pack up and we head off.   First stop, Mexico Missouri (4 hrs from here) to visit the Zenith Aircraft Shop where the plane kits are made that Monty wants to use. We meet a very nice man who gives us a tour and we get to see the plane we want and touch and sit in. Exciting. Back on the highway towards Mansfield, Ohio where the engine is located - 14 more hours to drive. Are We Having Fun Yet?

Camping: The art of getting closer to nature while getting farther away from the nearest cold beverage, hot shower, and flush toilet. With family changes on their way we thought it was time to take an RV camping trip and include grandchildren. We could bond, enjoy each other and just have fun. When I think about it our RV is 60 feet long and twice as wide but, in reality it is 37 feet long and about 18 feet wide. Now it is not just the two of us but the seven of us. I will make this work.  We decide to experience a new place. Roman Nose State Park near Watonga, Oklahoma. Named for a Cheyenne Chief, about 3 1/2 hours west from home. We drive down on Friday afternoon to get set up. My daughter Erica will bring her two children (Hugo and Lucy) and two of my other daughter's children (Conor and Emma) later that day. Mythical Crossroads (6)

Athens, Greece (May 23-29) Much has been said and continues to be said of what little concern the Turks had for the Acropolis treasures. Melina Mercour i Monty has always had the desire to see Greece. I was interested in the history so we added it to this trip. We flew from Rome on a direct flight to Athens and were transferred via taxi to Hotel Hera. The hotel is very near the Acropolis but we didn't know how close until we arrived in our room on the 4th floor.  Hotel Hera Peacock Terrace Restaurant From our balcony we could see the Acropolis shining on the hill. What a view! It's always a little sereal when you travel and view an iconic artifact or building that you have grown up seeing in your history book.  Acropolis by day I feel very fortunate to be here and seeing this. It is afternoon and we go to find a meal and see what is nearby. We ate on a terrace restaurant nearby call Wind (appropriate).
