What Did We Buy?
Reality leaves a lot to the imagination. John Lennon
The fog of excitement and glow of Christmas was over and now it was time to "see" what we bought. Monty and I reviewed what we should have discovered (or been told about) about the Motorhome before we drove it off the lot. I have to say that it is difficult to look at every crook and cranny when the vehicles are squeezed together in a parking lot. The salesman guided us around and assured us they had reviewed the bus and all was well.
* Lower Compartments check
One of the main one is rusted through and needs replacing. Carpet only holding it now.
* Electric check
* Electric check
The battery compartment - batteries not new as were led to believe. It is tight and hard to see but Monty will figure out how to get in there.
* Roof check
Seems okay, no rust, holes, bumps. There is a satellite, looks old. CB radio antenna and one for TV. Need to check all seals and make sure no leaking.
We kept being assured by the salesman (are any of them honest?) that the bus had been completely checked out including electrical. Oil had been changed, new batteries, and clean. Hmmmm seems to have an oil leak. They must have had the generator wrapped in a bandage, it went out within a week. Needed diesel so we went to get some. Opened the outer cap door and discovered:
A rag??? Well that's disappointing. Sadly, salesman say anything to sell their product. Why do I believe anything else? You are so excited and everything is shiny but when reality sets in, you've discovered you got what you paid for and must make the best of it. I am so thankful Monty is a mechanic, electrician, plumber, and can fix just about anything. It took several days but Monty found a gas cap that might work. Just needs a little adjustment, which Monty was able to do with a grinder. It fit! I felt like I had done a good review of the inside, but without it being plugged into 30 or 50 amp service, we don't know if the electric plugs work. It has been winterized so no way to check water lines or hot water heater until it gets warmer and we want to travel. Fingers crossed.
All in all we are excited to have our AllieB and after we set up and get ready to go, we will plan our first trip. In the meantime, I am busy sorting the house and finding out that I have way too much stuff and need to find out exactly what I can live without. This will be fun and we are happy full time RV'ers to be.
