Grandma Goes to Georgia

A house needs a grandma in it -- Louisa May Alcott

My middle daughter Becca lives in Marietta, Georgia with her husband Chace and two children, Marshall, 7 yrs and Olive, 3 years. It had been about a year since I saw them so it was time for Grandma to go see everyone. We are able to FaceTime, but hugging them in person is the best.

I arrived with no plans just wanting to spend time with the kids and babysit so Becca and Chace could have a date night. Encouraging them to go out, they had two dates. The kids are easy and I love being with them.
Barbie!!

Olive is a girly girl who will only wear dresses (maybe pants in the winter) and has a paper crown she likes to don. With her ringlet curls it's adorable.

She likes to sing, right now her favorite song is "Wheels on the Bus". I happen to find her a coloring/sticker book of the song and she enjoyed my help with that. Usually it was mama only but a couple of times I was able to participate in her entertaining her.

Riding and singing
Most of the time she plays alone, riding around on her little bike. She is a busy bee, hates bedtime which I am sure it is because she thinks she will miss something important.

Becca has a whole process to do Olive's hair. It has tight ringlets and actually gets rather matted if you aren't careful. Becca can't wash it regularly but she has a cream and detangler she brushes through it and it curls back up and dries in those beautiful ringlets. Becca's hair was like that as a toddler but not so tight. Marshall had curls too but after he started school wanted a "big boy" haircut and now it is straight with a slight wave.

We traveled around the Marietta area. It's a big place, a northern suburb of Atlanta so it takes a drive to get anywhere.

The first trip was down to Marietta center square. There is a large park in the center and shops and restaurants surround the square. It was a nice, sunny day and we went into a few before the kids were tired.

I found a British shop and I always have to go in hoping for either Outlander items or anything Mini (we have a Mini Cooper). I did find a new purse.

Next day we went to run some errands. Costco for some paper goods and then by WalMart for milk. For lunch we first were looking for a Checkers (drive in for hamburgers). As we approached a light in Kennesaw, I spotted a Culver's Ice Cream/Burger shop. I eat there when I visit my daughter in Arizona. We stopped there instead since Becca and kids hadn't eaten there before. Once we drove into the parking lot we saw the sign for Grand Opening. How fun!! We had the best burger and ice cream and the kids totally enjoyed it.
A new burger place!

Marshall loved their chicken
Olive actually ate some ice cream
Atlanta is not a burger town, chicken all over so we were excited to find Culver's.

One evening we went to Casanova Mexican Restaurant. Large portions and very tasty.
Ole!!

Another night was a new place The Italian Oven. I had a spicy penne pasta dish. Good but spicy.

Becca and I went to a very popular store that I have always wanted to see. The closest one to me is Dallas. We went on a Sunday so Chace kept Olive and we had some quality time with Marshall. It was very interesting and their prices are amazing.

My visits to my children are never long enough and I so enjoy seeing everyone. I am a grandma so the best is seeing the kids and hugging them whenever I want; whether they want it or not. I was able to help Becca with laundry and cleaning to give her a break from the mundane routine of being a stay at home mom. I enjoyed every minute. I know how quickly time can go by and all of the sudden they are grown up and don't need to know their grandma anymore.
