What Did I Forget This Time?

I'm such a control freak that camping, for me, is difficult. I can't be this crazy, carefree person that wears the same outfit for four days.    Mabel

Ya Gotta Have Friends

Before the official end of summer we take the RV out and travel not too far from home for a nice weekend with friends. We decide on the Holiday KOA on Lake Eufaula near Checotah, OK. Near the highway exit but surprisingly we had the feeling of isolation. A large shady park with space for our long bus and slide outs. We have a patio, grill and Adirondack chairs provided. The site has a large swimming pool and playground. While Monty sets up the utilities on the outside, I empty boxes, fill cabinets and set up the inside.

That's us on the right
We soon realize the refrigerator doesn't work even after checking fuses and propane valve. Nope, no refrigerator. We had brought several Ziploc bags of ice for the cooler but end up using it in the frig and after a couple more bags of ice, thanks to the office store on property, everything will stay cold as the unit will act as a cooler. We are still careful to not open doors unnecessarily. I realize I have forgotten trash bags! and fortunately Karen has extra. I begin making a need/want list for our next trip.

Our friends we were meeting show up soon after and after they are set up next door, we are ready to catch up. Later we cook hamburgers on their grill and try to avoid the rainy clouds. Too humid so we eat inside our unit. We spend the rest of the late afternoon visiting and laughing. We met Karen and Trent a few years ago when Monty bought two tail dragger airplanes that Trent inherited from his father. We are close to the same age and have the same interests. They live about 2 hours from us so we don't see each other often but, when we do we have a great time. They have adult children in the East and travel more than we do currently. Once Monty retires we are hoping that will change and we will travel the USA as often as possible.

Catch and Release pond

Lake Eufaula

Now to see why the hot water is tepid. The hot water unit is under the very small bathroom sink. Monty removes the cover and the faucets are on the floor. It appears the hot water faucet is not turned on and Monty can't quite reach them. I am enlisted to try and once I am twisted around and reach as far as I can I finally am able to turn the knob.

Hot-ish water at last. But I have hurt my back and it will pain me for a few days.

Next day is Saturday and we take a short walk down to the lake. It's still partially flooded due to the early summer flooding we had in most of Eastern Oklahoma. We aren't much for swimming, just taking photos of the area. We walk back up towards our unit and pass the pond for catch and release. Good idea if next time we can bring a grandchild.

Cottage

Inside Cottage
There are two cottages near by that look interesting for other family members if they want to come with us.

Near the owners home there are some farm animals which surprised me. Fun to hear them "talking" all day.

Chikin Town

Time for lunch. We brought the hot dogs and fixings but we cook on their outside grill to enjoy the sunshine. Clouds have finally left and it has turned out to be a very nice day. After awhile Monty and I go back to our place and as he naps, I begin some correspondence. I am a member of a pen pal club and have neglected my responses. I get all caught up. Even though there is good WiFi, we don't have a TV so I am not focused on that.

Hard at work
I did bring my portable DVD player and DVD library. I find a movie to watch while we wait to cook our final dinner. We had brought our Foreman grill and cook in our kitchen since Monty is the cook. I soon realize that the stove-top doesn't work. Doesn't seem to be getting propane. Another item to open and repair/overhaul.

Even with all the stops and starts and forgotten items, we still had a wonderful time. We love our version of camping, seeing all the sights and look forward to the next trip to parts unknown.
